Boardshell

A case for the FireBeetle 2 ESP32‑C5 kit that fits the first time.

Generated from DFRobot's own CAD for the board and its IO board together (DFR1236). Every port, button and light is handled, and the case is checked against the official 3D model of both boards before anyone prints it.

Cut-away of the generated shell Side section through the shell, the IO board and the FireBeetle board plugged on top.
The real shell, cut through the middle: body lid boards. Outside size 67 × 52 × 31 mm.

What the case takes care of

  • USB-C that takes real cables

The window is sized for the largest plug moulding we found on real cables, not just the 12.35 mm the USB specification allows.

  • BOOT without opening the case

A flexing tab in the wall presses the button. It is sized so a thumb press stays light.

  • LEDs you can see

Two light pipes, printed in clear or white, carry the status lights to the lid.

  • Jumper wires that stay put

Wires leave through the base, held by a printed TPU grommet that the lid squeezes shut.

  • A radio that keeps its range

No screws, magnets or inserts anywhere: the board is held by its own holes.

  • Pins exactly in the holes

Locating pins and clamp posts are placed from DFRobot's CAD, then the whole case is checked for contact with both boards' 3D models.

Known problems with this board

  • DFRobot's 3D model has no USB-C body

The official model includes the connector's solder pads but not the metal receptacle. A case built straight from it gets the USB opening wrong. We measured the real part and use that.

  • RST faces the middle of the kit

On the kit, the reset button points inward, away from every wall. The next version adds a plunger in the lid that presses it from above.
